UNIT 4 Lesson 13 Exercise 1.3 Welcome back to True Stories from History. With me is Mr. Richards of the National Music School. Richards, everyone knows that the young Mozart was a talented child. But what does that mean exactly? Well,to give you an idea, by the time he was six years old, Mozart could already play the keyboard and the violin. And he could read a piece of music just one time and play it immediately. And he could invent pieces of music in the style of famous composers. Could he write music at an early age as well? Yes, he could. He was amazing. When he was six years old he wrote five short piano pieces that people still play today. He wrote music for the violin when he was seven a long piece of music at the age of eight and even a comic opera at the age of twelve. When he was fourteen, he went for a performance in Rome. This is a difficult piece for many different voices. We don't know how he did it, but that same night he wrote down the whole piece from memory.
