When Audrey died in1993, the worldmourned the loss ofa great beauty,
a great actress anda great humanitarian.
Audrey was born in Belgium on 4th May1929.
She began takingballet lessons at avery young age.
She loved dancing andher dream was tobecome a successfulballet dancer.
She had put all hereffort into ballettraining
before she enteredthe film industry.
She had also been amodel before shebecame a Hollywoodsuperstar.
In 1951, whilefilming Monte CarloBaby,
Audrey met thefamous writerColette.
Audrey's beauty andcharm attracted thewriter's attention.
Colette wrote anovel called Gigi.The novel was latermade into a play.
Colette insisted thatAudrey was theperfect girl to play
to play the lead rolein the play.
That event marked thebeginning of Audrey'ssuccessful career.
Shortly after,Audrey was chosen toplay the lead role
of a young princessin the Hollywoodfilm Roman Holiday.
The film was a bigsuccess and Audreybecame famousinstantly.
She won an Oscarfor Best Actress forher role in thisfilm.
Later,she also wonthe Tony Awards forthe play Ondine.
During her lifetime,Audrey earned fourmore Oscarnominations.
Some of thewell-known filmsthat Audrey acted ininclude Funny Face,
Breakfast atTiffany's and MyFair. Lady.
In 1989, Audrey madeher final appearancein films.
In Always, she playedtherole of an angel.
Many people thoughtthat she was playingherself because tothem,
she herself was anangel.
Throughout heracting years, sheacted in only oneTV series,
Gardens of theWorld with AudreyHepburn.
That was also herfinal appearance onTV.
She wanted to remindus that we shouldprotect theenvironment by
showing us thebeauty of nature.
Audrey'sachievements wentbeyond the filmindustry.
People remember hernot just as a greatactress, but also asa great humanitarian
because she devotedmuch of her time tocharity.
She spent the lastfew years of her lifeworking closelywith UNICEF
to help needychildren indifferent parts ofthe world.
Her efforts in thisarea earned her anumber of awards.
In 1992, the Presdentot the United States
presented her withthe PresidentialMedal of Freedom forher work.
In 1991, Audreydiscovered that shehad cancer.
On 10th January 1993,she took her lastwalk in her garden.
Ten days later, atthe age of 63,Audrey passed away,
peacefully, in hersleep.
