children are among the 18 people confirmed dead in the Surfside, Florida, condo collapse, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said at a Wednesday afternoon news conference. The bodies of 10-year-old Lucia Guara and 4-year-old Emma Guara were found Wednesday, Miami-Dade police said, adding the girls were sisters.
"Any loss of life, especially given the unexpected, unprecedented nature of this event, is a tragedy," Levine Cava said. "But the loss of our children is too great to bear."
The number of victims recovered grew by six Wednesday. At a morning update, the mayor announced four bodies had been located.
Police also identified Anaely Rodriguez, 42, and Andreas Giannitsopoulos, 21, as among victims found Wednesday.
